Veteran Pakistani actress Sania Saeed recently spoke candidly about the issue of street begging, describing it as an organized system run by mafias. She recounted a personal experience that reinforced her decision to never give money to beggars.
Sania explained that, in her view, “It’s a mafia,” and that these networks earn millions through a system where individuals posing as beggars must pay to occupy specific spots.
“I have a strict rule against giving money to beggars on the streets,” said Sania.
She further shared an incident, saying that although she usually avoids giving anything to street beggars, one day she bought slippers for some children begging on the road, purely out of kindness.
However, when she passed by the same spot later, she was told that the children had sold the slippers she had bought for them.
She added that the incident made her realize the importance of avoiding street almsgiving and instead donating to verified charity organizations.

Many social media users agreed with Sania Saeed’s remarks, praising her for addressing a sensitive social issue.
They also encouraged others to adopt a more mindful and informed approach when offering help to street beggars.
An instagram user said, “She is right. My mother never gave money to beggars who are physically fit, I remember once in my childhood, a young boy was begging and my mother refused to give him money rather asked him to clean her car in exchange for money but he ran away.”
One of the Instagram users linked this issue to religion, saying, “She is absolutely right. The Messenger of Allah forbade giving money to such people, and even the Imam of the mosque in our neighborhood himself advised against it, they are all professionals.”
