Princess Diana’s dress auctioned at $1.1 million; 11 times more than the estimated price

A blue and black Jacques Azagury evening dress once worn by the iconic Princess Diana, fetched a staggering $1.1 million at auction, shattering the previous record of her gown went for auction.
The iconic princess adorned the ballerina-length evening dress for the first time during her royal tour to Italy with Prince Charles in 1985. A year later, she was photographed wearing the same garment on her official visit to Vancouver, the Los Angeles-based Julien's Auctions said.
Julien's Auctions announced on Sunday that the dress, along with a matching illustration, was sold for $1,148,080, surpassing the initial estimate of $100,000 - $200,000.
The long black velvet bodice is embellished with blue stars, paired with a two-tier blue organza skirt adorned with a sash and bow.
The auction house said that the dress was "synonymous with the Princess of Wales's royal elegance and eternal grace."
The iconic dress, along with other items, was part of the four-day Hollywood Legends sale conducted by Julien's Auctions and Turner Classic Movies (TCM), which featured a range of memorabilia.
The pink chiffon blouse Diana wore for her engagement photo with Prince Charles sold for a whopping $381,000 even though it was only supposed to cost $80,000-100,000.
The other two items sold were a scarlet red silk Bruce Oldfield gown and two designs by Catherine Walker: a black silk velvet and white silk crepe strapless gown.
At the age of 20, Diana Spencer, later known as Princess Diana married to the heir of British throne, Prince Charles, in 1981. They welcomed two sons, Princes William and Harry.
She was beloved for her impeccable persona and philanthropic activities, making her global figure. In 1997, the world mourned the tragic loss of Princess Diana as she succumbed to the injuries from a car accident in Paris.
