Singer Sanam Marvi has resolved her dispute with Arts Council of Pakistan (ACP) Karachi President Ahmed Shah, days after serving him a legal notice over alleged mistreatment and threats at a recent concert in Sukkur.

The matter was settled following the intervention of Sindh Culture Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah as dramatist and former minister Noorul Huda Shah also played a mediating role.

In a video statement, the culture minister said that talks were held at his office to settle the matter. “If there was any shortcoming and Sanam was hurt, then as the culture minister I apologise,” he said. “Ahmed Shah also said that Sanam is like his younger sister. It must have been a mistake by the staff.”

Ahmed Shah denied any personal conflict with the singer. “We had no issue at all. Sanam may have had a misunderstanding perhaps the staff’s attitude seemed that way. Obviously, there were thousands of people at that time and also a lot of pressure. Sanam is like our younger sister,” he said.

“If we fight, we fight big fights. We don’t fight with our sisters or with artists.”

Sanam Marvi said: “It is Sindh’s tradition that when elders sit together, disputes are put to rest. Whatever issues there were, they are now over.”

The row emerged earlier this month after Marvi issued a legal notice to Ahmed Shah, accusing him of mistreating her and extending threats during the ACP-organised concert at Jinnah Municipal Stadium in Sukkur on August 10.

The event was part of a series of government-sponsored performances marking Marka-e-Haq and Independence Day, featuring leading artists including Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Asim Azhar, Bilal Saeed, Young Stunners and HAVI.
