Renowned host and comedian Tabish Hashmi skillfully balanced his wit with sharp, pointed questions to Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab in his show, addressing the city’s worsening infrastructural woes. His grilling, laced with genuine concerns and playful banter, struck a chord with netizens, who felt Tabish had perfectly voiced their frustrations in a constructive way.

The show, aired on a private news channel, featured Murtaza Wahab as a guest, where Tabish Hashmi raised hard-hitting questions about Karachi’s broken roads, lack of planning, and inadequate development.

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), which has ruled Sindh for nearly three decades, continues to face criticism for failing to resolve basic civic issues in Karachi, from garbage management to road construction, leaving much of the city in dire condition.

During the discussion, Tabish bluntly yet respectfully told the mayor that he could travel across areas from Tower to SITE and “wouldn’t find anything that shows authorities have worked for the betterment of the city.”

In response, Murtaza Wahab attributed the lack of progress to Karachi’s polarised political landscape, claiming that inter-party rivalries among councillors obstruct collective efforts.

He also held the federal government responsible for not providing adequate funds to initiate large-scale development projects.

However, Tabish reminded Wahab that during PPP’s tenure in both federal and provincial governments, no significant breakthrough projects were completed in Karachi, raising questions about the party’s will to deliver.

Throughout the show, Tabish managed to keep the conversation lighthearted with his trademark sarcasm, while still pressing on critical issues. Wahab, for his part, remained calm and answered without taking offense.

The exchange quickly went viral on social media, where users praised Tabish for channeling Karachiites’ long-standing frustrations with authorities who, in their view, indulge more in lip service than tangible work.
