Several Pakistani celebrities expressed their disapproval of scriptwriter Nasir Adeeb's recent comments regarding Reema Khan, with many criticising the practice of publicly discussing someone's past.
The controversy started when, during an interview, Nasir Adeeb shared a story about meeting Reema Khan in Heera Mandi, where he was searching for a heroine for a film.
He claimed that while he found Reema’s manner of speaking impressive, he did not cast her due to a perceived lack of innocence in her eyes.
Adeeb stated that a successful actor must have a certain innocence, which he felt was missing in Reema at the time.
He went on to acknowledge that, despite his initial judgment, Reema later became a superstar and earned immense respect in the industry.
In response to the statement, actor Imran Abbas expressed strong disapproval, though he did not directly name Nasir Adeeb or Reema Khan.
He criticised "individuals, writers, and so-called intellectuals" who continuously dig into the pasts of actors and celebrities.
According to Imran, such remarks are designed to tarnish reputations, and he lamented that a person should not be reminded of their past, especially when they have moved on and left it behind.
Actress Mishi Khan also voiced her regret over Nasir Adeeb's comments, stating that she did not expect such a statement from someone with his experience.
She defended Reema, emphasising the love and respect the actress has shown her over the years.
Mishi demanded an apology from Nasir Adeeb, regardless of the truth behind his claims, stressing that a person’s life can change significantly over the course of 25 years. She also pointed out that such remarks affected not only Reema but also her family and loved ones.
Actor Sanam Jung joined the growing chorus of criticism, condemning the act of “digging into someone’s past” as unprofessional and harmful.
Former anchor and TV host Rabia Anam also condemned Adeeb’s comments, calling them inappropriate and uncalled for.
Reema Khan, a renowned actress, director, and producer in Pakistan, began her career in 1990 with the film Bulandi.
Over the years, she earned significant success and recognition for her hard work, talent, and distinct style. Currently, she lives in the United States with her husband and children.
