The Punjab Wildlife Department has achieved a significant milestone with the interception of 200 rare turtles that were being smuggled from Thailand through Lahore Airport.
This breakthrough came as a result of prompt action taken by authorities upon receiving a tip-off regarding the illicit activity.
The turtles, classified as rare and endangered species, were found individually packed in groups of 100, indicating a systematic attempt to conceal their transportation. Originating from Thailand, these precious creatures were intended for delivery in Pakistan before being intercepted by vigilant wildlife officials.
Upon learning of this smuggling attempt, the Wildlife Department swiftly mobilized its resources and collaborated with relevant agencies to thwart the unlawful trade and ensure the safety of the turtles.
The successful seizure marks a crucial step towards protecting these vulnerable species from exploitation and preserving biodiversity.
In the aftermath of the operation, legal proceedings have been initiated, and formal requests have been made to Customs authorities for the proper documentation and custody transfer of the confiscated wildlife.
