Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi will not play the final of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 against South Africa, which is scheduled to be held later today at Edgbaston.

Speaking at a press conference in Manchester, Afridi, who has not featured in any matches during the tournament, confirmed that he will miss the final.

“Doctors have advised me to rest so I will not be playing the final,” Afridi said. “My heart desired to play despite the pain especially if we had faced India in the semi-final.”

The 44-year-old has remained involved with the Pakistan Champions squad throughout the tournament, taking an active role in team preparation and mentorship.

“I have been motivating the boys, reminding them of their responsibilities and help coordinate practice sessions and nets that’s how I’m contributing off the field,” he explained.

Pakistan Champions have maintained an unbeaten run in the tournament, advancing to the final after India Champions forfeited their semi-final match. Afridi praised the team's unity and focus, emphasising their commitment to national pride.

“We are here only for Pakistan. This green jersey is our pride,” he said. “Every player is taking this competition seriously. It may be a legends tournament, but when Pakistan is involved, the passion and intensity are real.”

Afridi expressed confidence in the squad’s readiness, adding that senior players were fully focused on delivering a strong performance in the final.
