Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General (DG) Maj-Gen Ahmed Sharif, strongly condemned ongoing social media campaigns targeting the armed forces.
He emphasised that such activities violate Pakistan's security interests and the state constitution.
"Certain political factions consistently level accusations against the armed forces and other state institutions on social media platforms," Maj-Gen Sharif stated.
"However, when pressed for evidence, they resort to further unsubstantiated claims. Institutions are forced to respond with counter-accusations. This creates a vicious cycle," he added.
The DG ISPR reaffirmed the military's commitment to rationality and facts and stressed that “truth will ultimately prevail over falsehoods."
He highlighted Article 19 of the Constitution, "While freedom of expression is undoubtedly guaranteed, the same article makes it clear that no individual has the right to undermine Pakistan's national security and sovereignty."
Maj-Gen Sharif further underscored the importance of Article 19, which states that diplomatic relations with friendly nations “cannot be jeopardised under the guise of free speech.”
"The right to express oneself freely does not extend to damaging societal morals. It does not include inciting public disorder or criticising the integrity of the higher judiciary," he maintained.
The DG ISPR hinted at zero tolerance for irresponsible social media activity. He asserted, "The Constitution of Pakistan does not allow propaganda against the state and its armed forces."
During the press conference, he also shared the footage of May 9, 2023, riots, in which several military and civil installations were vandalised by PTI workers and supporters after the arrest of Mr Khan in a corruption case.
Refuting the notion that the establishment and PTI will hold negotiations, the armyman said that no talks would be held with the party that mocked national martyrs.
"If any political party or leader or group attacks its army, mocks the nation's martyrs, then no one will talk to them," he concluded.
