An investigation revealed that 31 Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials were allegedly linked to a human trafficking case that resulted in the deaths of five Pakistanis, while 40 others went missing after the boat carrying illegal migrants capsized off the Greek coast.
Following an internal investigation, the FIA identified 31 officials as suspects, and it has been decided that their names will be added to the passport control list.
According to media reports, the FIA initiated a probe against these officers, 19 of whom were deployed at Faisalabad Airport, three at Sialkot Airport, two at Islamabad Airport, five at Quetta, and two at Lahore Airport.
Sources close to the matter revealed that the officials involved in the incident included inspectors, sub-inspectors, and constables, who were allegedly responsible for facilitating the illegal transportation of victims from the Greece capsizing incident to Europe.
The departmental action was taken under the direction of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who had previously ordered a meeting of officials to take measures against human trafficking.
PM Shehbaz expressed his anger over the slow progress of the investigation into the 2023 incident, stressing that those responsible for the delay would face departmental action.
PM Shehbaz also recalled that a similar incident occurred in the same area of Greece last year, which resulted in the deaths of 262 Pakistanis.
