The Babusar Top Road has been closed for all types of traffic until June 6 as authorities intensify efforts to clear accumulated snow, glaciers, and debris from the high-altitude route connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to an official travel advisory, continuous snowfall and adverse weather conditions in and around Babusar Top have hampered ongoing clearance operations.

Heavy snow and glacier deposits remain at several locations along the road, prompting the National Highway Authority (NHA) and district administration to undertake a comprehensive clearance operation before reopening the route for regular traffic.

Officials said that the road had previously been opened on a one-way basis to facilitate travel to Babusar Top and Gilgit-Baltistan.

However, the limited opening led to severe traffic congestion and blockages due to the heavy influx of tourists during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays and the restricted road width in snowbound sections.

Following the Eid holidays, the NHA and district administration launched an extensive operation to completely clear the remaining snow, glaciers, and debris from the roadway.

To ensure the safety of travelers and allow heavy machinery to work without interruption, authorities have now closed the road entirely until June 6.

Machinery deployed in the area is actively engaged in widening the carriageway and removing snow accumulations that continue to obstruct smooth traffic flow. Officials maintain that the temporary closure is necessary to restore the road to a fully operational condition and prevent future traffic bottlenecks.

Tourists and transporters intending to travel towards Gilgit-Baltistan have been advised to use the Dasu route as an alternative during the closure period. The public has also been urged to cooperate with the police and district administration and avoid unnecessary travel towards Babusar Top until the road is officially reopened.

For the latest information regarding road conditions and reopening schedules, travelers may contact the Police Helpline at 15.
