On the directive of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the menu of Punjab jails has been upgraded to provide higher quality food to prisoners, now including a greater variety of chicken dishes.
According to Inspector General (IG) Jails Mian Farooq Nazir, chicken will be served seven times a week in the jails of Punjab, with qorma, pulao, and karahi being newly added to the jail food menu.
IG Nazir stated that the upgraded menu aims to provide food containing 2800 to 3000 calories per day for prisoners.
To enhance the flavor and nutritional value of the meals, the quantity of onion, ginger, and tomato used in curry gravies has been increased by 25 percent.
Additionally, Kasuri fenugreek has been included to improve the taste of the food.
Previously, chicken was provided six times a week. The new menu has been carefully prepared with input from experts to ensure it meets the required caloric needs of the inmates.
