Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan on Thursday said that he was not aware of any planned visit of US President Donald Trump to Pakistan after media reports suggested a possible trip to Islamabad in September.
Responding to the reports, the FO spokesperson said: “I am not aware of any such development.”
The reports, aired by TV channels citing unnamed sources, claimed that President Trump was expected to visit Pakistan in September as part of a broader South Asia tour that might also include India.
Meanwhile, Reuters quoted a spokesperson for the US embassy in Islamabad as saying, “We have nothing to announce,” and added that the White House would be in a better position to confirm the president’s schedule.
No official statement has been issued so far by the White House regarding any planned visit to Pakistan.
Meanwhile, a TV channel apologised for airing an unconfirmed news report regarding Trump's possible arrival in Islamabad on September 18.
Separately, Buckingham Palace has officially confirmed that Trump has accepted an invitation from King Charles III for a second state visit to the United Kingdom. The visit is scheduled from September 17 to 19, during which Trump and his wife, Melania Trump, will be hosted at Windsor Castle.
This will mark Trump's second state visit to the UK. His first occurred in 2019, when he was received by Queen Elizabeth II during his presidency.
