Former DG ISPR Lt. Gen. Asif Ghafoor retires from military service

Lieutenant General Asif Ghafoor, the former Director General (DG) of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) and ex-spokesperson of the armed forces, bids farewell to his distinguished military career.
At 57, Ghafoor received an emotional send-off from his colleagues, leaving behind a legacy of strategic leadership and unwavering dedication.
Recently serving at the National Defence University (NDU), Ghafoor held several prominent positions throughout his illustrious career.
Commissioned into the 87 SP Medium Regiment Artillery in 1988, he progressed through key roles, including Brigade Major, Assistant Military Secretary, GSO-I in Military Operations at GHQ, and Director of Military Operations.
He served as DG ISPR from 2016 to 2020, gaining recognition for his candid press conferences and dynamic Twitter presence. Ghafoor played a crucial role during the 2019 Pakistan-India standoff.
Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General, Ghafoor assumed the role of Commander of 12 Corps following the martyrdom of Lieutenant General Sarfraz Ali.
As Inspector General of Communication & Information Technology, he made significant contributions to the military's technological capabilities. In his final role as President of NDU, Ghafoor focused on advancing strategic studies and defense education, shaping the future leaders of Pakistan’s military.
