Rawalpindi man kills future daughter-in-law over suspicion of elopement

A 17-year-old girl in Rawalpindi was tragically killed by her future father-in-law, who suspected she had run away with another man for a wedding, according to police.

The incident occurred in Rawalpindi's Syed Kasran area, within the jurisdiction of Jatli police station.

The girl's intended father-in-law, who is also her paternal uncle, killed her in the name of honor.

Police said that the mysterious death and sudden burial prompted them to investigate the matter. The girl’s father, mother, and uncle summoned and questioned by the police during the interrogation. 

A case was registered against them after police recorded statements from the victim's family members. The deceased's father and mother were booked for concealing the crime.

The FIR stated that during the investigation victim’s mother revealed that her daughter Naalain Zehra was engaged with her uncle’s son Oun. 

“We live in the same Haveli. On February 3, my daughter disappeared from the house. My husband and brother-in-law [suspect] went to search for her and brought her with them when they returned from Jirga at 1:00 am,” said Mother.

“My brother-in-law brought her to the room, and then she was found breathless the next morning, then she was buried immediately,” she added. 

The victim’s mother stated that her daughter's mysterious death caused chaos in the household, prompting the suspect to disclose the reason for her death.

“My brother-in-law, in the presence of my husband, confessed that he killed my daughter,” she stated. 

She quoted the suspect, saying, “We are an honourable family, and I killed Naalain as she ran away with Shair Abbas, which is why I took her life by feeding her anti-insect medicine.” 

The victim’s father and uncle [suspect] confessed their crime to the police as well.

A probe was launched into the murder case after conducting an autopsy by exhuming her grave.
