The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has forecast heavy rainfall in Karachi and Hyderabad between August 24 and 28, warning of possible urban flooding.

Thunderstorms are also expected in Hyderabad, raising the risk of flooding.

On Thursday, Karachi experienced partly sunny weather during the day, followed by light to moderate showers in the evening.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) official said the current monsoon system has weakened significantly, reducing its impact on the city.

According to the Met Office, Karachi’s weather is likely to remain mostly cloudy with light rain or drizzle over the next two days (Friday and Saturday), while maximum temperatures are expected to range between 32°C and 34°C.

The spell of torrential rain that began on August 19 had already wreaked havoc across Karachi, submerging streets, disrupting traffic, and leaving citizens stranded for hours. Commuters, including office workers and students, faced severe hardship in reaching their destinations.

At least 17 people lost their lives in rain-related incidents, while prolonged power outages added to the misery. Many areas remained without electricity for hours as K-Electric failed to restore supply, leaving residents to endure an entire day without power.
