Iran has executed Mohammad Amin Shayesteh, whom authorities claim was the head of the cyber team for Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad. According to the semi-official Tasnim News Agency, Shayesteh was arrested in late 2023 and charged with cyber espionage on behalf of Israel.

The Iranian judiciary stated that Shayesteh attempted to obtain classified information for Mossad. Following a full criminal investigation and the Supreme Court’s confirmation, the death sentence was carried out.

This is at least the third execution of an alleged Mossad agent by Iran since Israeli airstrikes on June 13. Just a day earlier, Majid Moussibi, another suspected Mossad operative, was also sentenced to death for allegedly trying to leak sensitive nuclear information.

Iranian authorities have ramped up their crackdown on individuals accused of espionage and sabotage linked to Mossad, describing them as serious threats to national security.
