Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced a protest rally on Sunday, July 13, against the Sindh government's newly introduced “Ajrak design” vehicle number plates.
According to a party spokesperson, the rally will begin at 5pm from Nazimabad No. 7 and pass through various parts of the city before concluding at the Karachi Press Club.
The protest is aimed at opposing what the party calls the "forced imposition" of new number plates on citizens and the penalties being imposed for using older plates.
JI leaders have termed the move a revenue-generating scheme rather than a public convenience measure.
Meanwhile, traffic police have urged motorists to drive cautiously and use alternative routes due to expected traffic disruption during the rally.
Citizens have raised concerns over the additional cost of acquiring new plates and the abrupt enforcement measures.
In view of the protest, traffic police have advised commuters to exercise caution, expect road closures, and use alternative routes to avoid congestion in central areas of the city.
