KARACHI: In a significant medical milestone, surgeons at the National Institute of Child Health (NICH) in Karachi successfully conducted a surgery to separate two-month-old twins from Naushahro Feroze.

The intricate procedure spanned 10 to 12 hours and required the collaboration of a team of 10 medical professionals, including four specialized surgeons from prominent hospitals in Karachi.

The twins, Naila and Shumaila, were born on September 10 at a private facility. Their grandmother shared that the parents, Ghulam Mustafa and his wife, encountered financial challenges in securing the surgery. However, an official from NICH confirmed that the hospital administration took care of all costs.

Medical experts from NICH, Aga Khan University Hospital, the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), and the Sindh Institute of Child Health and Neonatology (SICHN) worked together on this operation.

Dr. Nasir Siddle, Executive Director of NICH, noted that specialists from private hospitals were also consulted during the planning stages.

“The surgery was challenging but ultimately successful, owing to the collaboration and expertise of all involved. Both girls are in stable condition,” stated Professor Siddle.

The twins’ grandmother expressed her gratitude towards the medical team and support staff. “We were unable to afford the operation. I am thankful to everyone who assisted us and to the doctors who dedicated themselves to saving our daughters.”
