A police constable in Quetta has shot and killed an elderly man inside a prison, who was accused of disrespecting the Holy Prophet (PBUH) after his alleged video went viral on social media.
The victim, Abdul Ali, was detained by the Kharotabad Police Station on Wednesday, and a case was registered against him under Section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
A large mob had gathered outside the Kharotabad police station, demanding the handover of the accused.
Videos on X showed a mob attacking the police station and throwing stones, demanding that the accused be handed over to them.
To prevent any violence due to the presence of a large crowd of protesters, the accused was transferred to the Cantt Police Station, a senior police officer told the BBC Urdu.
While Abdul Ali was being held at the police station, a police officer fired shots at him, and the accused succumbed to his wounds.
Police officials stated that the officer who shot the suspect was arrested. An investigation of the incident investigation is currently underway.

According to the police, instead of transferring Abdul Ali's body to the Civil Hospital, the police surgeon was summoned to a secure location for the post-mortem examination.
The deceased man was reportedly filmed while driving a car, during which a person sitting beside him asked about the recent arrest of PTI leaders.
In response, Abdul Ali reportedly said, "People should now stand up against the government and ask them where they are escalating the situation."
According to the FIR filed against him, the slain man allegedly uttered some disrespectful words regarding the Holy Prophet (PBUH) during his conversation in the video.
