Man shot dead on Rawalpindi’s Mall Road after alleged firing at security personnel

A man was shot dead by law enforcement personnel on Rawalpindi’s Mall Road on Tuesday after he allegedly opened fire on security forces, injuring an official, according to police.

Rawalpindi police identified the deceased as Muhammad Hussain and said he was killed in retaliatory fire following the alleged attack.

Police said evidence and alleged links had emerged from Hussain’s mobile phone and other belongings, adding that further investigation was under way.

State broadcaster PTV News, citing security sources, reported that Hussain was a resident of Khyber district and an “active PTI member”. It also reported that a PTI flag, ammunition and weapons were allegedly recovered from him.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, speaking after the incident, criticised what he described as PTI’s “politics of violence” and alleged that party supporters had previously attended protests while carrying weapons.

Tarar also linked his remarks to PTI’s planned long march to Islamabad on September 27, alleging that the party’s protests had involved violence and disruption of law and order.
