"Maryam Nawaz not drawing salary as Punjab CM," claims Azma Bokhari

Information Minister Punjab Azma Zahid Bokhari has claimed that Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz doesn't draw a salary for her work as the head of the province.

The revelation from the provincial minister came during an interview with a private news channel.

The PML-N leader was asked to clear the air about reports that the CM house requested Rs2.7 crore funds to replace tires of a VVIP bullet-proof Mercedes, used by the first female CM Punjab.

Responding to the question, Azma confirmed that Punjab CM House had asked the finance department to clear maintenance payment, but it's still pending.

"Tires were last changed in October 2022 for Rs23.4 million. The car is government property, and we had to convince Maryam Nawaz to approve maintenance for this specific vehicle because it's crucial for her safety," she said.

Azma went on to say that CM Maryam "works without a salary, government residence, or any other perks" associated with the position. 

She defended Maryam Nawaz's move, saying that the criticism was not justified.

“Maryam Nawaz's tireless efforts make it difficult for opponents to find faults in her,” Bokhari added.
