The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a countrywide weather alert, warning of strong winds, dust storms, thunderstorms, heavy rain, urban flooding and glacier-related flood risks in the next 12 to 24 hours.
The alert was issued by the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), which said the current weather pattern matches seasonal forecasts issued earlier.
The authority said warnings had already been shared with federal, provincial and district administrations for preparedness.
According to the advisory, widespread rain with strong winds and thunderstorms is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and several districts of Punjab, including Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Multan, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan.
The NDMA warned of possible urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and the Potohar region.
In Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, rain and thunderstorms are expected in several areas, including Gilgit, Skardu, Muzaffarabad and Neelum Valley.
The authority also warned of a higher risk of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) and flash floods in northern areas due to rapid glacier melting and rising temperatures.
Parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Sindh, including Karachi, are also likely to receive rain and thunderstorms.
The NDMA advised district administrations to remain on high alert and urged people living near streams and low-lying areas to move valuables and livestock to safer places.
Tourists were advised to avoid unnecessary travel to northern areas during heavy rainfall and to stay away from glaciers, rivers and fast-flowing streams.
