Social media users voiced their frustration and anger over Karachi’s lack of a proper development plan, as the city once again faced severe flooding after just a single day of rainfall.
Many criticised political parties for neglecting the port city’s infrastructure despite holding power for years, pointing out that even basic systems, such as functional drainage, remain undeveloped.
Netizens condemned the continued failure of successive governments to address Karachi’s chronic urban challenges.
Intermittent heavy rainfall in Karachi since Tuesday morning has submerged parts of the city, triggering urban flooding. Low-lying areas have been inundated, and ten people have lost their lives in various incidents.
Power supply has been suspended on 550 feeders, leaving many areas without electricity for up to 16 hours. A K-Electric spokesperson confirmed that power is being supplied from over 1,550 out of 2,100 feeders.
Major roads, including Shara-e-Faisal, University Road, and II Chundrigar Road, were submerged, causing severe traffic jams. Commuters were stranded as vehicles and buses became trapped in water, and residents were seen pushing cars and motorcycles through flooded streets.
Water also entered homes in areas such as Surjani Town, Garden, Shadman Town, and Sakhi Hassan. Several shops on North Karachi’s Food Street near Nagan Chowrangi were submerged.
In response to the situation, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced a public holiday in Karachi today.
Officials reported that major highways have been partially cleared, but warned of the possibility of more rainfall on Wednesday. The public holiday has been declared to ease the burden on residents.
Heavy rainfall also affected internet and mobile services across the city. The ongoing downpour continues to strain Karachi’s infrastructure, with traffic disruption and power outages compounding the challenges faced by citizens.
According to meteorological reports, the highest rainfall recorded was 170 mm in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, followed by 158 mm at the Old Airport. Jinnah Terminal received 153 mm, while Nazimabad recorded 150 mm of rain.
My sister's car broke down at Sharah e Faisal, and after being stuck for over 2 hours, she finally walked to nearby Imambargah and took shelter. Now, moving to a family friend's house.

For years i have been saying that this mega city of God knows how many millions, an economic hub is simply unmanageble and ungovernable as it has been ruined, looted by mafias including Real Estate and ruling elite. All institutions exposed. God help this city and its people.

A brand new entry-level car in this country costs around PKR 3 million, and people legit pay their life savings to buy one cause zero proper public transport especially Karachi. Looking at the destruction in Karachi with hundreds of cars, and bikes destroyed.

The worst part of all this is that there is nothing Karachiites can do about it.

Karachi is stuck under the Sindh govt with no autonomy and no development.
PPP will keep winning in Sindh & we will continue to suffer.
I don't see any democratic solution to Karachi's problems.
