A recent survey revealed that almost 62 percent Pakistanis prefer to live in a joint family system, considering it an important part of their lives.

According to a Gallup Pakistan survey on social attitudes, 36 percent countrymen and women favour living separately.

The Gallup poll also revealed data based on the responses of men, women, and urban and rural residents.

Data showed that 69 percent men supported the joint family system, compared to 54 percent women in the country.

On the other hand, 45 percent women supported separate living, compared to 29 percent men.

The joint family system received 4 percent more support in cities compared to villages.

According to the findings, 70 percent Pakistanis reported living in a joint family system, whereas 30 percent live independently.

The survey results highlight the deep-rooted emphasis on family in Pakistani society, where the family unit is considered the cornerstone of social structure.

An earlier survey found that arranged marriages are prevalent in Pakistan.

Among those who contracted arranged marriages, 85 percent girls were married at their parents’ behest. While 14 percent expressed a preference for choosing their own partners.

Similarly, 77 percent boys complied with their parents' wishes regarding marriage, while 22 percent sought to marry on their own free will.
