Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori on Monday claimed that Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain is set to return to Karachi’s political scene. His remarks came a day after the self-exiled leader announced the disbandment of his party.

Speaking at an Independence Day celebration at the Sindh Governor House, Tessori addressed the audience and asked whether they wanted the “old MQM” to re-enter Karachi’s politics.

“I am repeating this again, Bhai (Altaf Hussain) is set to make a comeback. He will fix Karachi. Do you want the old MQM back?” Tessori asked the cheering crowd.

He also urged other political workers to join MQM-Pakistan if they genuinely wished to pursue democratic politics.

Turning his criticism towards rival parties, the governor alleged that other political groups only seek votes in Karachi but show little interest in the city’s development.

'I failed my people': Altaf Hussain frees MQM workers from oath of loyalty

It is pertinent to note that Altaf Hussain, once considered a dominant political force in Karachi, has been in poor health in recent years.

On Sunday, he posted a message on X expressing disappointment that despite decades of struggle for the Mohajir community, he had failed to secure their rights.

In his message, Hussain also released party workers from their oath of loyalty, allowing them to join any political party of their choice.
