Pakistan will play its scheduled match against India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on February 15, 2026, after the federal government granted approval following high-level consultations with international cricketing bodies and friendly countries.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was formally briefed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi on the outcome of deliberations involving the PCB, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), officials said.

According to a government statement, Pakistan reviewed formal requests from the BCB, along with supporting communications from Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates and other ICC member nations, urging Islamabad to help facilitate a resolution to the ongoing impasse surrounding the tournament.

The government also took note of remarks by BCB President Amin ul Islam, who expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s role, reiterating that Islamabad stands in solidarity with Bangladesh.

On Tuesday evening, Prime Minister Sharif held a telephone conversation with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, during which both leaders recalled the longstanding ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, particularly during difficult periods.

During the call, the Sri Lankan president requested Pakistan to give serious consideration to an amicable resolution to the situation.

In light of the outcomes of multilateral discussions and requests from friendly nations, the government directed the Pakistan national cricket team to take the field for its February 15 fixture in the tournament.

Officials said the decision was taken to uphold the spirit of cricket and ensure continuity of the global game across all participating nations.

The prime minister and the people of Pakista extended best wishes to the national side, expressing confidence that the team would uphold sportsmanship and national pride as it competes on the world stage.
