Pakistani mountaineer Asma Mushtaq loses life while descending Spantik

Pakistani mountaineer Asma Mushtaq died during her descent from Spantik peak after successfully reaching its 7,027-metre summit.
The 36-year-old was part of an expedition to the 7,027-metre Spantik peak and successfully reached the summit in good health, the trekking company said.
According to a statement issued by Karakoram Calling Treks, Mushtaq developed severe high-altitude illness at an altitude of around 6,400 metres during the descent. She was travelling with mountain guide Akbar Ali and expedition guide Muhammad Amin under permit number PAK-06.
The company said Akbar Ali made every possible effort to save Mushtaq despite extremely difficult weather conditions, but she could not survive.
Karakoram Calling Treks paid tribute to the courage and dedication of the mountain guides and said it was in contact with the relevant authorities and the deceased's family to provide assistance.
The trekking company also expressed condolences to Mushtaq's family, friends and other loved ones.
