Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has entered into a cargo partnership agreement with Riyadh Air, the newly launched Saudi Arabian airline, to expand its freight network and boost revenue, the national carrier confirmed on Wednesday.
According to a PIA spokesperson, the agreement will take effect on October 29 and will facilitate cargo transport from Pakistan and London to Riyadh. From there, goods will be distributed to other destinations through the combined route networks of both airlines.
The spokesperson said the collaboration is part of PIA’s efforts to enhance its cargo operations and meet the increasing global demand for air freight services. “This arrangement will strengthen PIA’s cargo business and create new commercial opportunities,” the official added.
PIA currently has a similar cargo-sharing arrangement with British Airways, through which approximately 1,000 tonnes of cargo are transported to the United Kingdom each year. The new partnership with Riyadh Air, the spokesperson noted, aligns with the airline’s broader business strategy to expand its international cargo network and improve financial performance.
Riyadh Air, backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, is the kingdom’s new national carrier, established to increase connectivity and support the country’s aviation and logistics sectors.
