PIMS fire: Nawaz Sharif demands action against those responsible

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif has called for strict action against those responsible for the tragic fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

The fire broke out in the intensive care unit of the gynaecology ward at PIMS early on Wednesday, killing 14 newborns.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took immediate notice of the incident, summoned an emergency meeting and suspended Federal Health Secretary Aslam Ghauri, removing him from his post.

The prime minister also described the incident as tragic and constituted a high-level inquiry committee to determine those responsible. In a statement shared on social media, Nawaz Sharif said he was deeply saddened to hear that 14 innocent children had died in the tragic fire at PIMS.

“I share the grief of the bereaved parents,” he said, praying that Allah grant patience and strength to the affected families. Nawaz said that the government should identify those responsible for the incident and take strict action against them.

He also called for effective measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
