Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has extended an invitation to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to form the government in Gilgit-Baltistan, stating that the party has emerged as the majority group in the region.

In his statement, the Prime Minister said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supports the PPP in forming the government in Gilgit-Baltistan.

He added that the PML-N has decided to sit on the opposition benches in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, while its elected members will vote in favour of the PPP to facilitate government formation.

He emphasised that the decision was made in line with democratic traditions and values, adding that the PML-N has always maintained a relationship of respect and cooperation with its allied parties.

Welcoming the development, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the invitation to form the government.

He described the acceptance of the PPP’s majority in Gilgit-Baltistan as a continuation of democratic norms.

Bilawal further noted that, as part of a mutual understanding, the position of Governor Gilgit-Baltistan and the office of Deputy Speaker will be held by the PML-N.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari added that the PPP would utilise all its capabilities to serve the people of Gilgit-Baltistan effectively.
