The Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) successfully rescued nine Indian crew members from the distressed cargo ship, 'Tajdare Haram,' approximately 120 nautical miles south of Karachi.
The incident occurred on December 26th at 11:00 am when the ship began taking on water. The crew abandoned ship and sought refuge in life rafts before being rescued by the PMSA.
On receiving information about the accident from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Mumbai, the PMSA immediately launched a coordinated rescue operation.
“The vessel was reported to have sunk in the exclusive economic zone of Pakistan, with its 12 crew members stranded on a life raft in distress," PMSA said in a statement.
A PMSA aircraft was dispatched to the accident site, successfully locating the survivors. Subsequently, nearby commercial vessels and PMSA ships were dispatched to the scene.
The PMSA also facilitated the arrival of an Indian Coast Guard vessel operating in nearby Indian waters to assist in the rescue and recovery efforts.
According to the statement, this is the second successful operation by PMSA in the last three weeks.
On December 4, PMSA rescued 12 Indian crew members from MSV Pirani Pir in a similar mission.
"The PMSA remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring maritime safety and upholding international obligations under the SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) Convention. Such operations underscore the PMSA’s dedication to saving lives at sea, regardless of nationality, and fostering regional maritime cooperation."
