Punjab introduces electric rickshaws in Lahore to combat air pollution

In response to the escalating issue air pollution issue, the Punjab government has launched electric rickshaws in Lahore.
The electric rickshaws have been introduced by the Punjab government in collaboration with a local private company. The introduction of electric rickshaws took place during a meeting chaired by Punjab Transport Secretary Ahmed Javed Qazi.
During this event, the Transport Secretary not only announced the initiative but also personally experienced driving an electric rickshaw with the guidance of experts.
Anticipating positive outcomes, it is expected that the adoption of electric vehicles, particularly these rickshaws, will play a pivotal role in curbing pollution issues in Pakistan, especially in Punjab.
Lahore, frequently ranked among the most polluted cities globally, faces challenges such as smog and a poor air quality index.
The Transport Secretary stressed that the use of electric rickshaws in Pakistan will substantially decrease both air and noise pollution.
Providing additional insights, these electric rickshaws boast an impressive range, capable of travelling up to 150 km on a single charge.
This feature not only promotes sustainability but also helps in saving fuel costs, a crucial aspect considering the high fuel prices exceeding Rs260 per litre in Pakistan.
The adoption of electric vehicles, including cars and bikes, has gained prominence worldwide due to their efficiency, fuel-saving benefits, and zero emissions, contributing to a healthier and more sustainable environment.
