The Karachi University Teachers’ Society (KUTS) said on Thursday that the Rangers sector commander has suspended the official who slapped Professor Dr Afaaq Ahmed in the university’s staff colony.

The action came after the Rangers official allegedly slapped the professor three days ago when the latter objected to garbage being burned outside his residence. As a result, Dr Ahmed’s glasses were damaged and he suffered an eye injury.

The incident caused outrage among the academic community. In a session held at the university's staff club, Dr Ahmed recounted the incident in detail. The matter was immediately reported to the university’s Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, who assured that it would be addressed without delay.

According to a statement issued by KUTS, the KU VC and the teachers’ society president Dr Mohsin Ali visited the professor at his residence to express solidarity.

Senior Rangers officials also met Dr Ahmed and condemned the incident. The Rangers sector commander later suspended the official involved and initiated disciplinary proceedings, assuring that strict action would be taken.

The educators expressed gratitude to the KU administration, KUTS leadership, and Rangers officials. Dr Ahmed conveyed his full satisfaction with the actions taken, while participants of the meeting appreciated the swift response by all stakeholders involved.
