For the first time ever, a rare wild animal, the caracal cat, has been sighted in the Cholistan Desert, which is a significant achievement for Pakistan’s wildlife conservation efforts.

The sighting became even more remarkable as a herd of chinkara deer was seen nearby, adding to the natural spectacle.

The caracal, classified as an endangered species in Pakistan, is known for being extremely difficult to spot, especially in arid and semi-desert habitats like Cholistan.

Its presence indicates a thriving ecosystem and highlights the success of ongoing conservation and wildlife monitoring efforts in the region.

Assistant Conservator Wildlife Rahim Yar Khan, Mujahid Kaleem, described the moment as one of the most memorable experiences of his career. “Such sightings bring immense joy to both nature enthusiasts and wildlife officials,” he said.

The Wildlife Department plans to document this rare encounter for future research and to further support the protection and preservation of endangered species in Pakistan.
