The Supreme Court's verdict regarding the amendments to the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) laws benefitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and it could open doors to end his incarceration.

Chairman PTI Barrister Gohar said major cases against Imran Khan will no longer fall in the NAB’s jurisdictions after the SC verdict.

Gohar’s statement came as the apex court annulled the September 15 2023 ruling of a three-member bench decision on Imran Khan’s petition, seeking the restoration of a corruption case against influential persons, including politicians.

The amendments in the NAB Ordinance 1999 made by the then-PDM government reduced the term of Chairman NAB and the prosecutor general to three years and restricted the NAB jurisdiction to cases involving over Rs500 million.

Following the SC ruling, Toshakhana and the £190 million case do not fall in the jurisdiction of the accountability department.

“The £190 million case was also decided by the cabinet, and under the new amendments, the NAB law will not apply to the decisions of the cabinet," Gohar stressed.

“Unanimous verdict has benefitted Khan in a way that the Toshakhana case — which is worth Rs75,661,600 — can no longer proceed," he added.

Gohar said the department could not proceed £190 million fraud case too.
