Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has reportedly made the decision to quit the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) as per sources.

The sources suggest that he will formally announce this decision in an upcoming press conference, following consultations with his constituents.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has conveyed that he will not be a participant in the forthcoming general elections, deeming them as ‘pointless.’

However, he hinted at the possibility of joining a new political party after the general elections.

During this period of political transition, he has expressed his intention to support a PML-N candidate in the February 8 elections if the party offers an opportunity to a common worker.

This development comes after Shahid Khaqan Abbasi resigned from his position as the PML-N Senior Vice President.

Notably, he abstained from attending crucial party meetings related to the allocation of election tickets and also skipped Nawaz Sharif’s homecoming rally in October.

His allegiance was clearly stated to lie with Nawaz Sharif, and he hinted that his decision to remain within the party would be contingent upon Maryam Nawaz’s potential elevation to the top office.

Meanwhile, former federal minister Hamayun Akhtar is set to join the emerging Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party as well.
