The Sindh government has ordered an immediate reduction in public transport fares following a Rs32.63 per litre cut in the price of high-speed diesel.

The Transport Department directed transporters to pass on the benefit of the diesel price reduction to passengers. The department instructed operators of buses, minibuses, coaches, vans and other public service vehicles to reduce fares and prominently display updated fare lists at all vehicles and bus terminals.

Transport authorities have also been directed to conduct daily road checks and inspect vehicles to ensure compliance. Strict action will be taken against transporters charging excess fares, including fines, suspension of route permits and cancellation of fitness certificates.

The relevant authorities have been ordered to submit daily compliance reports to the Sindh Transport Department.

The price of high-speed diesel was reduced by Rs32.63 per litre on Wednesday, bringing its new price to Rs363.06 per litre.
