Sindh to launch facial recognition attendance system for school teachers, other staff from Aug 17

The Sindh government has okayed the launch of a Facial Recognition Attendance Monitoring and Evaluation System (FRAMES) to monitor the attendance of teachers and school staff in the province.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting of the School Education Department chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah at the CM House on Tuesday.

According to a statement, the system will be launched in six districts from August 17 as part of the first phase. Each division will have one selected district where teaching and non-teaching staff have already been registered.

Under the new system, teachers' and staff members' attendance will be recorded through facial recognition technology. Officials said FRAMES will work in both online and offline modes, allowing it to function even in areas with limited internet connectivity. Schools have also been geo-tagged, and attendance records will be stored digitally in a secure and tamper-proof system.

Murad Ali Shah described FRAMES as a major governance reform aimed at improving transparency, accountability, institutional discipline and monitoring in schools.

He directed the School Education Department to ensure effective implementation of the system, establish a strong support and monitoring mechanism during the initial phase, and provide schools with the necessary technical assistance.

The chief minister said the system would be expanded to all districts of Sindh in phases after its successful implementation in the first six districts, adding that strengthening accountability through digital technology was key to improving the quality of education in the province.
