Karachi shivered as the cold wave intensified, with temperatures plummeting to a chilling 9°C early Saturday morning, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The Met Office also predicted cold and dry weather throughout the day, with 48 percent humidity in winds blowing from the northeast direction.

Earlier, in the beginning of December, Karachi witnessed a single-degree temperature.

However, PMD predicted that the mercury would gradually go up in upcoming days to at least three degrees Celsius, while cities in Sindh are expected to remain cold with Sukkur experiencing temperatures between 4-6°C, Mohenjo Daro between 2-5°C, and Mithi between 0-3°C.

Similarly, a severe cold wave continues across the country, including Skardu and Leh, where temperatures have dropped to minus 12 degrees Celsius.

Severe winter winds brought heavy fog to Punjab, causing three motorways to be closed for all types of traffic at various locations.

Motorway authorities closed Motorway M2 from Thokar Niaz Baig to Babu Sabu while Motorway M3 is closed from Samundri to Darkhana, and Motorway M4 has also been closed from Shorkot to Gojra due to fog.

Motorway Police pokesperson, Syed Imran, advised the drivers to use front and rear fog lights, avoid unnecessary travel, avoid high speeds, and keep a reasonable distance from the vehicle in front.
