Meta Platforms announced on Tuesday that it plans to conceal more content from teenagers on Instagram and Facebook in response to global regulatory pressure urging the social media giant to improve safeguards for children using its platforms.

In a blog post, Meta revealed that all teenagers will now be subjected to the most restrictive content control settings on both Instagram and Facebook.

Additionally, the company will limit additional search terms on the photo-sharing app.

This measure aims to increase the difficulty for teenagers to encounter potentially sensitive content or accounts when utilizing features like Search and Explore on Instagram.

In October, numerous U.S. states filed a lawsuit against Meta Platforms and Instagram, alleging that the platforms contribute to a youth mental health crisis by fostering addiction to social media.

Furthermore, Meta is currently facing scrutiny in Europe, where the European Commission has requested information on the company's efforts to protect children from illegal and harmful content.
