WhatsApp is testing a new feature that allows users to leave voicemail-style messages when a call goes unanswered.
The update, spotted in the Android beta version 2.25.23.21 by feature tracker WABetaInfo, introduces a “Record voice message” option. This appears alongside the existing “Call again” and “Cancel” buttons, enabling users to quickly send an audio message without leaving the call interface.
The same option is also displayed in the chat window of the contact who missed the call, making the process more seamless. Although WhatsApp already supports voice messages through the chat’s microphone icon, the new feature is designed to reduce extra steps and improve convenience.
According to WABetaInfo, the addition could prove useful in cases where users need to leave urgent messages for unavailable contacts.
The feature is currently available to a limited number of Android beta testers. WhatsApp has not confirmed when it will be rolled out more widely.
