KARACHI: A 10-year-old boy was killed and another person injured after a speeding water tanker struck their motorcycle in Orangi Town No. 1 on Tuesday, officials said.

Rescue teams confirmed that the deceased was identified as Javed, while the injured man was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Following the accident, angry residents set the water tanker on fire, protesting the growing number of road mishaps involving heavy vehicles in residential areas.

Despite an official ban on heavy traffic during daytime hours in Karachi, such fatal incidents continue to occur.

Just last month, several people — including children — were killed or injured in separate accidents involving trailers and tankers.

On September 13, a five-year-old child died after a water tanker struck his family’s motorcycle in Karachi’s SITE area.

On September 23, a speeding dumper truck killed one man and seriously injured another in Malir’s Memon Goth area.

Residents have repeatedly urged city authorities to strictly enforce traffic restrictions and take action against reckless drivers to prevent further tragedies.
