At least 17 people have been killed and over 40 were wounded after a truck of devotees en route to Shah Noorani shrine fell into a ditch in Hub, Balochistan.

According to media reports the truck, carrying approximately 100 passengers destined for Shah Noorani, plunged into the ditch at veerab, a locality of Hub.

Rescue sources believe that many of the victims were trapped under the truck. As of now, 17 have been confirmed dead, while over 40 were critically injured.

The victims were transported to Civil Hospitals in Hub and were later shifted to Karachi after receiving initial medical treatment.

Passengers, hailing from Sindh's Thatta and on their way to Shah Noorani, witnessed the tragic accident when the truck lost control and veered off the road, just 20 kilometers away from their destination.

The rescue operation is ongoing, with authorities utilizing heavy machinery to extricate victims trapped under the truck.

According to a list issued the rescue sources, the injured include: Zahid, 26, Ali Sher, 25, Mehrab,13, Wasim,12, Riaz, 29, Shahzaib, 5, Chaneser, 40, Azam, 20, Mehboob, 17, Ali Sher, 18, Ghulam Qadir 54, Akram 29, Imran, 14, Nawaz, 28, Gul Deen, 16, Niaz, 35, Muhammad Rafique, 45, Karam, 28, Sher Muhammad, 35, Pappu, 26, Sher Zaman, 12, Wahid, 26, Nawaz, 30, Siddique, 35, Aziz, 35, Shoukat, 35, Rasooli 18, Mehboob, 18, Liaqat, 15, Rehman, 30, Umar, 16, Ali Sher, 23, Mehboob, 14, Mehram, 17, Fayyaz, 12, Gulzar, 30, Bashir 35, Mehboob, 12, Ismail, 35, Ismail, 35 and Dilmurad, 35.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti also took notice of the incident, directing the district administration to transfer the injured to the hospitals immediately.

The spokesperson of the provincial government shared that an emergency has been imposed in the Jam Ghulam Qadir Hospital Hub. He added that emergency instructions have been sent to the commissioners of Kalat and Hub.
