Bhakkar woman thrown into canal by family for wanting to marry man of her choice

A young woman in Bhakkar was thrown into a canal by her father and brother for expressing the desire to marry a man of her choice.

She was a resident of the vicinity of Darya Khan Tehsil, Bhakkar. The victim identified as (H) wanted to marry a person of her own choice.

According to the sources, her father Akhtar informed Rescue 1122 that his daughter had been suffering from a toothache and was on her way to Darya Khan Hospital with her brother and father when their motorcycle slipped on the sand.

He claimed that due to the incident, his son and daughter fell into the canal, luckily, his son was able to escape while his daughter drowned.

Meanwhile, police registered a case and arrested the father and brother after a rescue operation failed to find the missing girl. The Police officials upon investigation, found no evidence of such an incident.

On further investigation, it was revealed that the victim’s conflict was ongoing with her father and brother over her wish to marry a chosen partner and both threw her into the canal and termed it as an accident.

During the investigation, Akhtar admitted to his crime. He confessed to throwing his daughter into the canal, ending her life because he did not approve of her choice of partner.

The search for the body of a woman is ongoing by the Rescue team, but her body has not yet been located.
