A man was shot dead for resisting a robbery attempt at his home within the limits of Sharafi Goth police station in Karachi, police said on Thursday.

According to details, three armed robbers broke into the victim’s house with the intent to loot valuables. The victim, identified as 50-year-old Shahid, reportedly resisted the bid, prompting the suspects to open fire.

Shahid, who worked for a private pharmaceutical company, died on the spot. He was the father of three daughters and the sole breadwinner of his family.

The police shifted the body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities. A police official said that evidence has been collected from the crime scene, and efforts are underway to obtain CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the culprits.

The victim’s relative, Muhammad Umair, said that Shahid had taken an unplanned day off from work that day. “Around 12:30 p.m., three armed robbers entered the house. Because his daughters were home, he tried to get them to leave. The robbers opened fire and fled,” Umair recounted.

He added that Shahid was a humble and peaceful man having no enmity with anybody. The grieving family has urged senior police officials to ensure swift justice by arresting the perpetrators and bringing them to trial.

It is worth noting that with this incident, the number of citizens killed during robberies in Karachi this year has risen to 79.
