Funeral prayers offered for Malir Halt accident victims

The funeral prayers of a young couple and their newborn, who were crushed to death by a speeding water tanker at Karachi’s Malir Halt, were offered on Tuesday at Jama Masjid Natha Khan.
Abdul Qayyum, 28, an employee of Cantonment Board Malir, was riding home with his pregnant wife, Zainab, 24, after a medical check-up when they met with a fatal accident at Malir Halt. A water tanker ran over them, resulting in their tragic deaths.
After being run over by the heavy vehicle, Zainab gave birth to her baby, but she died on the spot, and her newborn also did not survive.
The couple and their newborn were laid to rest after funeral prayers, which were attended by family members, friends, and political figures, including Ameer Jamat-e-Islami Karachi Munam Zafar, PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh, and social activist Alamgir Khan.

“The incident occurred while they were returning home from the hospital. We don’t know exactly how the accident happened,” said Abdul Qayyum’s elder brother.
He further stated, “We received a phone call informing us of the accident. Upon reaching the hospital, we found out that my younger brother had passed away.”
The couple tied the knot last year, and they were expecting their first baby, who was born moments after the accident but did not survive., the deceased elder brother added.
The deceased brother appealed to the government to take action against the tanker Mafia, “at least three more bodies of accident victims have been shifted to the mortuary,” he said, adding, “Please, they should restrict to running before midnight.”

Notably, the accident happened before a few hours before iftrar.
Besides this, another accident was reported at Karachi’s Quaidabad, where a truck crushed a pillion rider, leaving one, identified as Asif, killed while another sustained injuries.
The deceased, who hailed from Hyderabad, came to Karachi to meet his relatives. Asif was an event decorator, and he had four children.
