Pregnant woman, child and husband crushed to death by speeding tanker

A devastating accident claimed the lives of a pregnant woman, her newborn child, and her husband when a speeding water tanker crashed into their motorcycle under the Malir Halt Bridge in Karachi.

According to eyewitnesses, the reckless driving of the tanker led to the fatal collision, throwing the family onto the road. The accident took place when the woman was going to hospital for her delivery.

The victims suffered severe injuries and succumbed to them before medical help could arrive.

Rescue teams and law enforcement reached the scene soon after the accident. Due to the intensity of the road crash, the baby came out of the woman's womb. The newborn was rushed to the hospital, where the death was announced.

The driver of the water tanker reportedly fled the scene, and police have launched an investigation to apprehend him.

This heartbreaking incident highlights the increasing dangers posed by reckless driving and the urgent need for stricter traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies.

More than 60 people have lost their lives in collisions with heavy vehicles since the start of the year, according to statistics shared by the non-governmental organisation Chhipa Welfare.

Data released late Saturday night revealed that at least 63 people were killed in accidents involving dumpers and trailers, excluding three additional deaths reported in separate road traffic accidents (RTAs) in the early hours of Friday.

The data was broken into categories, with 17 people lost their lives in collisions with dumpers, while trailer accidents claimed 22 lives.
