Google has rolled out an important update for Gmail users, giving account holders the ability to change their main @gmail.com email address to a new one within their existing Google account.
And the best part is, even if you shift to a newer Gmail ID, all your data, whether it be emails, messages, or even photos, will remain intact. Google has started rolling out the feature to users in a gradual manner.
Still, users will be allowed to use either of the old or new e-mail addresses to sign in to Google services such as Gmail, Maps, YouTube, and Drive.
According to Google, after one new Gmail address is created, it cannot create another new address for 12 months. But the old address can be used anytime.
Although Google does ensure safety for data, it still encourages its users to back up the information in advance because certain settings of apps would reset automatically during the process.
Users can also verify whether this feature is an option in their account through Settings > Personal Information.
