IBCC relaxes equivalence criteria for foreign-board students with two science subjects

ISLAMABAD: At Saturday’s meeting, the Inter Board Coordination Commission (IBCC) made a decision in which science group equivalence will be given to foreign board students having passed at least two subjects of science group.

This step is expected to give more choice to students regarding future academic prospects.

Furthermore, 12 Deeni Madaris have been suggested for equivalence of their qualifications with SSC and HSSC, which means a total of 26 institutions will get equivalence of their qualifications with SSC and HSSC.

Furthermore, a decision has been taken in which SSC/HSSC certificates will include B form/CNIC numbers.

Also, a decision was taken according to which board toppers will be given scholarships and overseas exposure besides organizing winter and summer camps for such high achievers in order to provide them with a variety of learning and exposure opportunities.

All of these decisions have been taken during the 184th IBCC Forum meeting held at Murree.

"The two-day IBCC Forum has concluded at Murree after taking a number of significant decisions to transform Pakistan’s examination system from learning through memorizing to conceptual examination system," read a press release.

It added that chairpersons from Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISEs) across the country, technical education boards, and senior representatives of curriculum and textbook boards had come together for the meeting.

According to the press release, National Coordinator of the IBCC Forum Inayatullah Waseem emphasised the importance of active participation and collective ownership of examination reforms.

He said the IBCC Forum provided an important national platform for boards to learn from one another, share successful practices and develop common solutions to challenges faced by the examination system.

The national coordinator also stressed that greater coordination among boards and consistent implementation of agreed reforms were essential for ensuring fairness, quality and public confidence in examinations across the country.
