Karachi court allows exhumation of Mir Raza Ali's body for fresh autopsy

A judicial magistrate in Karachi on Thursday approved a plea for the exhumation of the body of IBA graduate Mir Raza Ali, who was found dead with a gunshot wound to the chest in bushes in Gulistan-i-Jauhar last month.

Ali's father approached the court, citing concerns over the post-mortem examination following a dispute between the Karachi police surgeon and investigators over alleged shortcomings in the medico-legal report.

Judicial Magistrate Hameedullah directed the Karachi police surgeon and the Sindh health secretary to form a medico-legal board to supervise the exhumation. The court ordered that the process be carried out at the earliest possible date and time, with the court being informed beforehand.

According to the court order, Ali's father, Mir Hussain Ali Khan, requested that a board comprising senior forensic experts and pathologists be constituted to conduct a fresh medico-legal examination.

He also sought a second post-mortem along with X-ray, DNA, forensic and chemical tests to help determine the exact cause of his son's death.

The court noted that the prosecutor had not opposed the request and allowed the application for exhumation.
